Chellé Tanner

Chellé began her love affair with live theatre at 8 years of age when she performed in The King and I with Grande Prairie Little Theatre. She continued to develop her acting skills thru elementary and High School classes and performances.

Before graduation from Abbotsford Sr. Seconday she performed in the 2-person show, “Bar and Ger”, which won entrance into the BC Theatre festival and Performed in the first non-professional performance of Vancouver author/performer Anne Mortefee’s Play “Reflections on Crooked Walking”

Chellé is also an accomplished singer, performing solo and with jazz quartets over the years. She was one of the youngest students to be selected for The BC Honor Jazz Choir in 1985 where she worked with Artist Bobby McFerrin for an afternoon and sang back up for his performance at the festival.

Chelle furthered her acting training at Douglas College in New Westminster, where she Graduated from the Theatre Program with honors and was the recipient of the Dorothy Jones Theatre Award. She performed in “Moo”, “Ten Lost Years” and “Steel Magnolia’s” while in the program.

Following graduation, Chelle worked in the Professional Theatre industry in Vancouver, performing in such shows as: “Women of Manhattan”, “Sure Thing”, “Momma’s Boy” and “Look Back in Anger” directed by world famous, Henry Woolf.
Chelle was an original cast member of the Award winning Fringe Show “MotherLoad” and a regular company member in Vancouver’s longest running smash hit comedy, “Tony ‘n’ Tina’s Wedding” produced by Hoarse Raven Theatre. Chelle performed 6 different roles (in T.&T.W), worked as Box Office manager for a few years and also Stage Managed this Large Cast Show.

Chellé has worked in the Film and T.V. medium doing background and principle work. She is most proud of her performance in Calendar Films TV pilot, “Cariboo Cooking.” She has been teaching, both in classroom setting and privately, for the past 12 years. Her classes have included instruction in voice and movement for the stage and acting skills for stage and film/television, and Musical Theatre.

After 5 years as Assistant Director, Stage Managing and Acting Coach with Imagine That! Productions, Chelle was excited to be back in front of the curtain, playing “Old Took” in “The Hobbit” (Feb 2009),“Marilla” in “Anne of Green Gables” (April 23 – 26/09) and she made her directing debut with “The Seussification of Romeo and Juliet” (June 5 – 6 /09)

Chellé has a passion for sharing knowledge and seeing people connect with the principals of theatre. Using a fun and positive style of teaching, Chellé’s gift of instruction and encouragement leaves her students enthusiastic and confident.
